PUBLIC CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS REGARDING ATHLETICS

Constructive Criticism motivated by a sincere desire to improve the quality of the athletic program is welcomed by the Board of Education.

The Board believes that complaints and grievances are best handled and resolved as close to their origin as possible.  Therefore, the proper channeling of complaints involving athletics will be as follows:

  1. Coach
  2. School Athletic Director
  3. School Principal
  4. District Athletic Director
  5. Assistant Superintendent
  6. Superintendent

Any complaint about athletic personnel shall always be referred back through proper administrative channels before it is presented to the District Athletic Director for consideration and action.  When a complaint is made directly to anyone other than the coach, the person making the complaint will be referred to the coach.

Proper Channeling

ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION FEE

The Mountain Vista High School athletic participation fee is set by Douglas County School District.

$200 participation fee per sport/athlete

This participation fee is required for all student-athletes.  This needs to be paid at the time of registration. There is a link at the end of your registration to pay through My School Bucks. Your student will not be cleared to participate if this is not done. If your student-athlete is trying out for a sport that makes cuts, we will automatically process a refund after we receive a final roster. The refund will go back on the card you use.

If your student has been approved by DCSD for the current school year Free & Reduced Lunch program, YOU STILL NEED TO GO  to My School Bucks and check out. If you do not do this, your child will not be cleared to participate.

The Athletic Fee goes to the District to help offset the cost of operating our sports programs.

**Some sports may require an additional payment for team-associated fees. These fees are IN ADDITION to the DCSD Participation Fee of $200.00**

ELIGIBILITY

All student-athletes must be eligible for competition under the policies established by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA).  These policies can be found on their website at www.chsaa.org.  Please see the DCSD Athletic Code of Conduct Handbook for additional information or contact the Mountain Vista High School Athletic Director.

Mountain Vista does have a strict policy regarding grades. The MVHS Athletic Department runs a Weekly Eligibility Report every Monday morning.  This report determines a student-athlete’s eligibility to compete the following week (Monday through Saturday). According to MVHS Athletics, no student is able to compete if they have an F.

In order to become eligible after the Weekly Eligibility Report has been pulled, the student-athlete must bring their failing grade up to a passing grade within their Infinite Campus grade book. They will need to get a GOLD eligibility slip for the Athletics office or Main office, fill it out and have the teacher sign and tell us what the grade improved to. The student needs to bring the GOLD slip showing the new grade to the Athletic Office before 3:00 p.m. the Friday of the week the report is run.  The Athletic Office must approve the changed grade and will notify the coach of the improved grade
